A brand is what a customer expects from you before they have spoken to anyone. In a crowded Indian market that expectation is often set in three seconds on an Instagram grid, a Google Business listing or a project brochure at a property expo. If it is vague, you compete on price. If it is clear, people pay for it. Brand development is the work of making that expectation deliberate.
Our brand development practice at AICLEX Technologies grew out of the marketing work. We kept meeting businesses spending well on ads while their name, logo, tagline and tone said nothing in particular. So we built a compact, fixed-scope process that takes a business from 'we do everything for everyone' to a position, a name (if needed), a visual identity, a messaging framework and a guidelines document, in six to ten weeks.
This page covers what is inside that process, what it is not, how long it takes, what it costs in broad terms, and the mistakes we help clients avoid. No theory, just the work.
What brand development includes, and what it does not
It includes strategy and identity: who you are for, why they should choose you, what you are called, how you look, how you sound, and the rules that keep all of it consistent. It does not include a marketing campaign, a website build or social media management, though all of those become easier and cheaper once the brand is settled, and we offer them as follow-on services.
- Positioning: target customer, category, differentiator, proof, and the one-line promise
- Naming: brand or product name options, availability checks, shortlist and rationale (only if a new name is needed)
- Visual identity: logo system, colour palette, typography, imagery style, layout grid
- Messaging: tagline, elevator pitch, key messages by audience, tone of voice with examples
- Guidelines: a practical PDF plus Canva or Figma templates so your team and vendors apply it correctly
Our five-stage process
Stage one is discovery: interviews with founders and three to five customers, a look at competitors' websites, listings and packaging, and a review of your existing materials. Stage two is positioning, where we write and test two or three candidate positions with you until one feels true and defensible. Stage three, when required, is naming. Stage four is identity design, where we present two or three directions, refine one, and produce the full system. Stage five is messaging and guidelines.
Each stage ends with a short written document and a sign-off, so there is no ambiguity about what was decided. Typical duration is six weeks without naming and eight to ten weeks with it. We work over Zoom (we are an official Zoom reseller, so the calls run on our own licences) and a shared Notion workspace where every draft and decision is recorded.
Example: repositioning a coaching business
Consider a typical situation. A coaching institute in a Tier 2 city offers classes for standards 9 to 12, JEE, NEET, and now 'skill courses'. Its Instagram shows toppers, its brochure lists 14 offerings, and its ads compete with national chains on price. Discovery interviews show that parents choose it because batch sizes are small and teachers reply on WhatsApp the same evening. That is the position: personal attention that big chains cannot copy.
The identity then follows the position. The name stays, the tagline shifts to something about small batches and known-by-name teaching, the visual system uses teacher and student photography rather than generic stock, the messaging framework gives the counsellors a script for parent calls, and the ads stop competing on discounts. This is the pattern in most of our projects: the differentiator is already there, hidden under a list of services.
Naming and availability checks in India
Naming is where founders lose the most time. We generate 40 to 60 candidates across styles (descriptive, invented, founder-led, metaphor), filter for pronounceability in Hindi and English, and check availability across four places before you fall in love with anything: the .in and .com domain, Instagram and other social handles, the MCA company name search, and a preliminary search on the IP India trademark database in your class. We then recommend a trademark attorney for filing; we do not provide legal advice ourselves.
We also check meaning across major Indian languages, because a name that sounds modern in Delhi can be unfortunate in Chennai. Shortlists go to you with a one-paragraph rationale each and a mock-up of how the name looks on a signboard, a WhatsApp profile and an app icon.
Deliverables, formats and timelines
You get everything as working files, not just a PDF. Logo in SVG, PNG and PDF with clear-space rules; colour codes in hex, RGB, CMYK and Pantone references for printers; font files or Google Fonts alternatives with licences noted; templates for Instagram posts, WhatsApp display pictures, letterhead, business card, email signature, presentation deck and ad creatives; a tone-of-voice guide with do and do not examples; and the brand guidelines document itself, usually 25 to 40 pages.
- Week 1 to 2: discovery and audit report
- Week 3: positioning workshop and positioning statement signed off
- Week 3 to 5: naming (if required), availability checks, shortlist
- Week 4 to 7: identity directions, refinement, full system
- Week 7 to 8: messaging framework, guidelines, template handover, one training session for your team
Branding mistakes we help you avoid
Choosing a logo before choosing a position, so the design has nothing to express. Asking ten relatives to vote on directions, which produces the safest and blandest option. Copying the market leader's look, which tells customers you are a cheaper version of them. Skipping the trademark search and receiving a legal notice two years later, after the signboards are up. Writing a tagline nobody in the company can explain. Treating the guidelines as a document to file away, rather than templates people use every Monday.
The most expensive mistake is rebranding without telling anyone why. We include a short launch plan: how to announce the change to existing customers, and how to update Google Business Profile, WhatsApp Business profile, marketplaces, signage and stationery in the right order so nothing looks half-finished.

Why choose AICLEX™
Positioning before pixels
We do not open design software until the positioning statement is signed. That is why our identities look like the business, not like a trend.
Marketing-tested
Because we also run ads, social and websites, every brand decision is checked against how it will perform in a reel, a search ad and a WhatsApp message.
Working templates, not just a PDF
You receive Canva and Figma templates plus a training session, so your team and vendors apply the brand without calling us.
Fixed scope, fixed timeline
Five stages, written sign-offs and a six to ten week schedule. You know what you are getting and when.
Pricing
Brand development is a fixed-price project, scoped after a discovery call. Cost depends on whether naming is included, the number of identity applications and any packaging or signage work. Small-business identity projects sit well below full repositioning programmes for multi-project developers or D2C brands. Payment is in milestones tied to the five stages, invoiced with GST by Aiclex Solutions Pvt. Ltd.
Frequently asked questions
How much does brand development cost in India?+
It ranges widely with scope. A positioning plus identity project for a single-location business costs a fraction of a full naming, identity, packaging and guidelines programme for a D2C brand or real-estate developer. We quote a fixed price after a discovery call, break it into stage-wise milestones, and do not bill hourly, so there are no surprises.
How long does a branding project take?+
Six weeks for positioning, identity, messaging and guidelines when the name stays. Eight to ten weeks when naming is included, mostly because availability checks and your own deliberation take time. Faster timelines are possible for project launches if decision-makers can commit to two sessions a week.
Do you register the trademark for us?+
We run preliminary searches on the IP India database and check domain, MCA and social handle availability, then recommend a trademark attorney for filing and advice. We are not a law firm and do not offer legal opinions, but we coordinate with your attorney so that the name and logo are filed correctly in the right classes.
We already have a logo. Can you do just the positioning and messaging?+
Yes. Many clients keep a logo with sentimental or market value and need the strategy, messaging and guidelines around it. We will tell you honestly if the logo has technical problems (poor scaling, colour issues, unlicensed fonts) and can fix those without redesigning it.
What do we need to provide?+
Founder time for a two-hour discovery session and weekly one-hour decision meetings, introductions to three to five customers we can interview, your existing materials, competitor names you worry about, and one decision-maker with authority to sign off each stage. Projects slow down when there is a committee; they move when there is an owner.
Will we own the final files, and do you provide a GST invoice?+
You own all final deliverables outright, including source files, on payment of the final milestone. Fonts are either open-licensed or licensed in your name. Invoices are issued by Aiclex Solutions Pvt. Ltd. with GST, in milestones matched to the stages so you pay for work as it is approved.
